I stepped in the middle of nowhere when I began to remember. Like a ship that lays its iron hook and grips the sea bed to anchor. Anonymity.

Every touch... Every sight... You can feel its aristocratic elegance. Even the simpliest furniture tell that it was one big heck of a money. Such a nice place to live in. But he still wonders why emptiness always seems to follow.

He placed his fingers at the railings of the stairs. Suddenly a picture of a woman was formed in his thoughts.

"When I grow up, I will be as high as these stairs!"
"You mean a giant?", and then she laughed hard.

"Yeah. A giant. A great successful giant. She didn't even recognize what he really meant. She only sees him like a child. A child who can't carry himself." He mocked.

How could he forget her? She, who never gets tired to listen. She, who doesn't have the hesitation to tell about his mistakes. Tears fall down as he reached the room he taught he will never step in to.

Little by little he moved forward. He walked around the corners. And gave it a loathed look, like a rotten meat. How he dreamt of this when he was a little. He looked behind those shadows wondering how it felt to be in that room. To be in his sight. How it felt he was existing in his world.

His gaze turned to a painting hanging on the wall. At the top of the fire chamber. Then he smiled.

"A pleasant day to you Don Leon", he coos effusively. He stares as if waiting for him to answer back. The tenderness of the oil paint can't conceal his brawn and august personage."

"You still look like the same as I remember."

He is level headed. Lionized by the people whom he dealt with. Always at the top. A lion.
"Don't you dare raise your voice again, you son of a menace!"

"But either way you'll never listen! You only care for yourself. You won't even bother to listen. Indeed, I am a son of a menace!" He knew it is now or never. He was so furious he began to walk away. He gave the old man a disheartened look who is still ranting about how badly he was treated.

He never wanted to leave. But it’s the only way to cope. He set aside those fears of being alone. Just to fly from those cages and his claws. Freedom.

"Mister! Someone is looking for you. He told me to tell you he's from the old mansion," a ten year old kid bragged him before he enters his old tiny house."

His eyes are stiffened.

"I was so delighted thinking you have finally raised the white flag. A rush of unexplainable feelings. Day by day, I've been practicing all my lines for you, if that moment comes. To get even."

"What does he want?", he made it to himself not to put any emotion on his face while glancing at Mang Carding.

"Senor..."

"Senor? There's no Senyorito living up here. A menace perhaps, don't you think so?" he laughed.

"There's no need for agony, Senor. Let it be peace. A truce from heaven. Indeed, if you're going to be happy," he then soar.

Then the sound of dirge filled the room. "It's time".

Sila na ngayo’y puno na ng lungkot at ng pighati.
Asan na ang kalayaang pinaglaban ng mga bayani?
Kung sa simpleng bagay pa lamang ay wala na tayong makuhang karapatan sa mga opisyal na tiwali.

Pilipinas, papalubog na ba ang araw mo sa bandilang iwinawagayway nang may yabang?
At ang mga bituin mo ba ay nawalan na ng liwanag dahil sa mga ulap na humaharang?

Kelan kaya na ang solusyon ay kusang kakatok sa aking pintuan
At papapasukin nang buong hospitalidad na para bang bisitang galing sa ibang bayan

“The place I used to know…

I always have in my dreams.

The place I ever wanted to stay forever.

The place I love.

The place I always wanted to paint in my heart.

…is the place that reminds me of him.”

The soft breeze that slays my whole body, the one that tickles my neck, the one that blew every inch of my long black hair, is the air that made me survive for the whole sixteen years in my life.

The enthusiastic beauty of the flowers brings more beauty to my soul. It enchants my spirit to become lovely. It made me see the true colors of nature.

The different curves of the ranges of mountain made me welcome its panoramic view. The brownish color of its skin is the mask that envelopes her whole being. The beauty it spread all over her surrounding shall bring smile on my unhappy face. The refreshing tone of her head made me feel so cool. The justifying lineage of these mountains lies in my heart which shall never die. Like my love for the one who lives over the golden exquisiteness of the hailed Mother of Mountains.

The affluent colors of the velvet lace that also surrounds the Mother of Mountains, glorifies Her name. By the power they have, they sent kindness drops from up above. As it showers the virgin body of the mountains, it looks more stunning than it is and brings youth to Her soul. The velvet lace tied to Her surroundings gave me the solitary feeling to embrace Her beauty.

The crown of heaven was set forth to give warmth to her body, but will ruin Her beauty. The light it brings, shares hope to me, that I shall see again the crown beyond the skies.

When the rich colors of the velvet lace becomes pale and the crown of heaven secretly hides comes the veil of darkness. But then diamonds nestles in the darkness’ shadow. They glimmered in the realms of darkness. When all of these are perfectly visible, I get myself into the hailed Mountain’s head and there I’ll see the oath of the Almighty God that He’ll never take off the bright shield of the hailed Mountains.

After pertaining to the beauty of the hailed Mountains, now I seek the place where I should be. The place I can find love. The place of a motherly image. The place I hope. The place where he is.

For so many years, I’ve travelled. I’ve even gone to places of rich culture and elite knowledge. But still I found my passion of undying love there in the hailed Mother of Mountains. Its great effulgence cuts off the ferocious wolf in my heart. The chemically combined atmosphere of these mountains made me breathe life. This place is where I was born. The place where I like every progress of my career would shine. The place I wanted to stay forever. And even if death awaits me here, I solemnly give my earthly body, and shall my soul protect the beauty of this place.

Now I’m trying to get near where he is. I can see footsteps marked on the way. I merely know it’s his. I can’t be wrong, and I will never be.

I followed. I know he will pass through the safest way. I trust him. As I go on, I am helplessly tired with every step I take. But still, I must follow him. He’s getting too fast, too fast that I don’t even have enough time to see him clearly. I really have to get near him. I just have to. So I run as fast as I could. I didn’t bother to think how steep the way gets. All I want to do is to run after him like a cop trying to stop a bad guy. I run and run and run. I didn’t even notice the tears falling down my cheeks. I don’t know why I am crying. I don’t want to lose him, that’s why I’m chasing him. The way gets wider and the rays of the crown of heaven strike me. And now I found myself on the head of the hailed mountain’s head, seeing every detail I knew She has. But the person I’m following is now gone. But where is he? Where could he be? I know I was following him. Oh, I just couldn’t be so blind. More tears grew in my eyes, and ran like a river down my cheeks. And so I shouted:

“Where are you?”

“it’s you whom I followed.”

“Why have you taken me here?”

I’ve asked all of these questions but there seems no response at all. Till a cold breeze blew over the whole place, and wraps my whole body, as if someone undressed me and bolds my whole being. Now I feel like I’m with the skies floating above and seeing the velvet lace. But then these thoughts have stopped, when the cold breeze was hot here at all, and I suddenly fell down on my knees, till my hands reached the ground, and so my body does.

I lay in the Mother of Mountains’ head like I was in a couch. But it’s more than just a couch, for I will stay with her forever, not with the person I love the most.

No one has ever found me up in the Mountains’ head, for no one has ever tried climbing her head, for they knew they can’t make it because they lack confidence. They don’t have courage. They don’t have the strength.

Many years have passed, and I still lay down on the mountains. But, I’m happy. I have no regrets. At least I have died in this place as I followed the marks he has made.

“Ang gwapo nya. That's why I like him” .. belle [maarte kong klasmate].

It was eleven when Mr. Garcia walked in the corridor to go in their faculty room. He was so very handsome professor [so hot like what other girls says] .. but I don't care .. I don't really care. In fact, I hate guys. [even though I'm pretending to be one of them]. He was already 35 as what I heard from the rumors.. but he's like ten years younger, and graduated cum laude in one of the prestigious university in manila. And now, he was our class adviser during our last year in school. I am Carla Reyes. Don't get me wrong but, I don't have a last name. “Anak ako sa pagkadalaga ni mama”. I never met my dad since the day I was born. I am nineteen now and still, knowing nothing about daddy. [Do I really have one? Ahah]. everytime I asked about daddy when I was young , mama always got angry, that's why, I stop asking. And now, I am one of the candidates for this year's suma cumlaude. And once again, I make my mam proud.

Mr. Garcia, as our adviser, helped us to finish our thesis. He was there when I had so many questions regarding that. As time goes by, I know him much deeper. And I found out that he was really the “man” that “must” be adored. I felt he like me. He turns me to be a pretty lady from a boyish one. I turn out to be a real lady. I felt in love for the first time of my entire life. We go into date, and even calls each other baby. But still, our relationship wasn't clear. No one knows anything about us. Even my mama which is my best friend and my everything. The graduation came and I graduated suma cumlaude of BS Accountancy. But unfortunately, baby wasn't there. But he made some surprise in me when we met the day after my graduation. We are now free to feel our love for each other. I thought it was already perfect relationship. So I never refuse to marry him when he asked me. He decided to retire in the university and go back being an accountant with me. We always enjoyed the company of each other. And I tell everything about us in my mama. Mama was so happy for me. And for the first time, he told something about daddy. Mama says that she met daddy a couple of weeks ago. And I feel that she still love daddy. But daddy, as what she told me, didn't love her. But still, mama was hoping that one day, they will be together once more. I pity mama. But I didn't make her feel that I was.

I am happy because I already found the man that I'll be with trough the rest of my life. So randy - my baby , was planning to marry as soon as possible. So I let mama meet randy.

“Mama, he's randy, the one that I'm telling you and my soon to be husband.” “And baby, she's my beautiful mama”. “Do I hear you right Carla?. That she's your mom?” –randy “Yes. Why? Is there's something wrong? Sya si mama ko. I'm using her last name because as what I told you, hindi ko kilala si daddy. Never ko pa sya nakita. He left my mom without knowing that he made her pregnant. “ I said. Mama was just looking at randy. Staring at him, and for a few second, she was crying. I became worried because I don't know whats happening. And after a couple of hours in silence, nalaman ko ang totoo. “Si Randy ang daddy. Dady ko pala ang taong dapat na magiging asawa ko. Na karibal ako ng mama. Na dugo ni randy ang nananalaytay sakin. Na siya at ako ay hindi na pwede. At kahit gaano ko pa ka gustong ipilit, hindi maaaring maging kame.” And now, after many long years in serving God, I am happy.. I am happy being a nun.

CICT Chorale ranks 2nd runner up in the Christmas Carol Contest

While Christmas is drawing nearer, the Bulacan State University (BulSU) in cooperation with the Cultural Affairs and Development conducted a Christmas Carol Contest participated by different Colleges in the University, where CICT Chorale ranks 2^nd runner up, December 6, at the Activity Center.

The program stated with an invocation followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The event was again led by Mr. Carlito Ramos from the College of Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (COPERS). Next is an opening remark from the Vice President of Student Affairs and Services while the contest proper followed thereafter.

The participants performed a warm up song then their rendition of the Christmas Song, Simbang Gabi. It was spearheaded by the Coro Harmonico from the College of Social Science and Philosophy (CSSP) followed by the Meneses Campus Chorale, and Koro Inhinyero from the College of Engineering (COE).

On the other hand, the BulSU pride, Saringhimig also performed on stage with their song Pasko na Naman, Malamig ang Simoy ng Hangin, Pasko na Sinta Ko, and Kumukuti-kutitap, at which audiences gave them a loud round of applause.

Moreover, BulSU-Bustos Chorale also showcased their prowess in singing same subsequent to the Lydian United Nursing Giocoso Singers from the College of Nursing (CON) and Munting Himig Chorale of the College of Education (COEd). Sarmiento Campus also showed their best in their performance while they were followed by an Intermission Number from the BulSU Lahing Kayumanggi Dance Troupe.

Afterwards, the College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA) Chorale showed their creativity in their performance but they didn’t Laboratory High School Musicarpio to demonstrate their professional etiquettes in singing despite of their young age.

A loud noise aired however at the Activity Center, when the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) Chorale sang the Christmas Carol Hark the Herald as their warm up song. Luckily, when they were performing on stage, fireworks from the Provincial Capitol of Bulacan were displayed that colour the performance of the representatives of the college.

Furthermore, Lara Lavinia, from BulSU Pop Star sang an Intermission Number followed by the modern dance from the BulSU Hyperdynamics. Awarding of certificates happened next then the Grand Chorale, wherein all the participants sang together creating sounds like heaven.

Next is the closing remark from the Director of Cultural Affairs, Dr. Herminio Suarez where he showed his amazement from the performance of the participants which he think will never be successful because of time pressure. More so, LUNGS from CON claimed the Best in Costume while Best in Choreography was nipped by CAFA. Consolation Prizes worth P3, 000 was also given to Meneses Campus, COE, Bustos Campus, COEd, CSSP and CAFA. 3^rd runner up position was grabbed by the LHS then the 2^nd runner up goes to CICT Chorale. 1^st runner up is CON and the 1^st Christmas Carol 2010 was successfully won by the Sarmiento Campus Chorale.

CICT paves way to SHOWTIME

“This is your show, this is your time, its showtime!”.

This is a famous line from the famous talent show in the Philippines. The College of Information and Communications Technology brought Showtime live here at Bulacan State University.

With the joint effort of the Society for the Welfare of Information Technology Students, Faculty and students, the college has successfully initiated its own version of showtime, one of the much anticipated talent search on Philippine television held at CICT/CON stage at 10 o’clock in the afternoon of December 6, 2010.

The said competition was witnessed by the CICT students wherein eight sampolistas from different year level showcased their amazing talents like singing, acting and many more.

The said show was hosted by Mr. Keno Piad as Vhong Navarro and Ms. Tracy Lopez as Anne Curtis. The participants were judged by the faculty also known Hurados including Ms. Jennylyn Aniag, Mr. Alex Caparas, Mrs. Donna Fernando, Mrs. Digna Evale & Mr Reylan Evale.

After the performances of the sampolistas, Ms. Allyza Kibranza Crisostomo of BSIT 1D-G2 reigned supreme as she got the highest average of 9.0, enough to crown as the 1^st winner of the CICT showtime.

CICT Band and Dancers rocks BulSU

“Infinity”, this was the theme conveyed by the CICT Band and Dancers on the night of December 3 at the BulSU Gymnasium.

The concert started at 6 o’clock in the evening which was attended by majority of CICT students, Faculty, together with College Dean, Dr. Fausto S. Hilario, Associate Dean, Jaime Pulumbarit, and the Department Heads of the courses offered by CICT.

The viewers were serenade by the members of the band together with the dancers through an opening program. Divine Daldal, became the Master of Ceremony wherein he filled the night with happiness as he talked humorous jokes. Then, Dr. Hilario delivered his opening remark and apologized to students because of the venue, the Valencia Hall which is not yet finished. He explained that the University Administration assured that the Gym will be built upon the celebration of the Foundation Week. But then, it didn’t stop the Band and the Dancers to rock BulSU.

The first part of the program was called ‘Back to Back to Back’ wherein three girls and two boys sang their own rendition of their chosen songs. Next is the special number from Dr. Hilario in his own rendition of Stay by Cueshe and Faithfully by Journey at which students from BSIT and BIT-CompTech can’t stop to show their happiness from the performance of the Dean. He has proven that he is not just good in leadership but also he is excellent in singing.

Moreover, Alternative Explosions was performed while the singing of CICT Heart robs happened next. After that, Top Ten Songs was sung with the CICT Dancers which ended the program.

“Maayos naman. Good. Saka yung settings da best, mukhang napaghandaan pero napaghandaan naman” said by Ejay Caluag of BSIT 4A when asked how’s the concert.

“Ayos naman, yung venue lang yung medyo hindi”, said by James Bernard Gabriel of BSIT 1B.

Facebooth: “Reinventing you with a better look”

As CICT rejoices with the 106^th Foundation Week of BulSU, CURSOR showed of its talents with its only kiosk, Facebooth.

Facebooth would give a creative manner of having you reinvented in an aesthetic manner. The booth allows everyone to have their wanted look within three selections: Bobble head, Caricature and Portrait.

Bobble Heads are pictures having a real heads in cartooned bodies. You may have your faces be in your body of your choice. It is made possible with the skills of Cursor’s layout artists.

Caricatures and portraits, on the other hand, were the ones drawn by Cursor’s cartoonist. The main difference between the two is that caricatures are comic and funny mostly characterized by giant bubbly heads and portraits are sketches which are directly penciled with the premises that the costumer wants.

Facebooth would be available from 8am to 5pm within the Foundation week located in 3^rd floor CON-CICT building from December 2-7, 2010.

In addition, CURSOR Video Channel was launched which presents the compilation of videos of the Publication.

Basic Web Development for 2nd Year BSIT Students unveil

A free sharing knowledge seminar of Basic Web Development for the 2^nd year BSIT students was held at IT4, December 03, 2010. The said seminar was organized by the Society for the Welfare of Information and Communications Technology (SWITS).

Mr. Timothy Jhon Ramos, faculty member of the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT), was the speaker of the seminar. He discussed the introduction of Web Development which includes the HTML documents, basic HTML syntax, Web Communication Protocols, Cascading Style Sheets and its Properties. He also talked about the Content Management System (CMS) using Joomla. More so, he also gives examples and tips to the students. Mr. Ramos inspired students on how to create websites.

When the seminar was ended, a short evaluation from the SWITS officer was followed afterwards.

Smart Community CARE assembles CICT students for job applications and interviews

In cooperation with the Society for the Welfare of Information Technology Students (SWITS) and the College Dean, Dr. Fausto S. Hilario, Smart Community CARE has successfully conducted “Power Personality” and “Resume Writing/Interview Tips” Seminar at IT7 and Reading Center of December 3.

The seminar started with an opening prayer led by Maria Karen Bea Oroscco followed by Dean Hilario’s opening remarks where he has tackled what has Smart contributed in the University even in their engineering days. A message from our college dean has described what could happen in the event, “Hindi kayo magsisisi sa matututunan ninyo.”

After that, Associate Dean Jaime P. Pulumbarit, with the collaboration of Ms. Aiza Garcia as the emcee, introduced the guests/speakers namely Mr. Ryan P. Muñoz, Regional director of Smart Communications, Region III, Mr. Eric A. Francisco, Ms. Lorna S. Gonzales and Mr. Ian M. Madlangbayan.

First to speak is Mr. Ryan P. Muñoz who explained Smart Community CARE’s goals which is extending a hand to the public to know their needs, promoting what Smart can provide them and giving them modules and seminars based on the needs they have known.

The “Power Personality” Module is then discussed by Mr. Eric A. Francisco and Ms. Lorna S. Gonzales respectively, which points out the development of Individual personality in Physical, Social, Intellectual, Emotional, and Values Components which could be barely seen or projected in a job interview and in the way that individual would work.

Another thing Mr.Franciso has discussed is the proper way of choosing appropriate attire for a job interview or during work and events. He clearly explained what are to wear and, to combine with and what to project in certain times and occasions. The basic skin care has been also explained during the lecture.

Afterwards, Ms. Lorna S. Gonzales proceeded to her part which focuses on Visual Poise and Etiquettes or Good Manners. Visual Poise suggests the proper way to walk, sit and stand either for men and women in a professional setup which is well linked to physical well-being. Business and Cell phone Etiquettes, eye contact, proper handshake, acknowledgements, smiling and meeting manners are further elucidated to promote professionalism.

On the other hand, the “Resume writing and Interview tips”, which lectures the students to put the right and suitable information in their resumes and application letters and also what to do and not in a job interview, is expounded by Mr. Francisco with some actual experiences shared by Mr. Muñoz.

The seminar ended with some surveys and bringing up some information about SMART including contacts and fan pages.

SWITS AND ACTS ADDS MORE FUN AND EXCITEMENT

As part of their participation in the glamorous celebration of Bulacan State University’s 106^thFoundation, the Society for the Welfare of Information Technology Students (SWITS) and the Association of Computer Technology Students (ACTS) launched their booths at the CICT-CON Bldg.

SWITS’s Message Booth opened in the first day of foundation week.

The said station features the sending of message through letters to someone secretly.

The letter corresponds a balloon wherein the sender will choose the color he/she wants to: red for loved one, blue for a friend, pink for crush, yellow for beloved faculty and white for an enemy (forgiveness).

The said booth is located at the 3^rd floor beside the dedication booth.

“Sana makipagcooperate sila sa mga projects, yun lang,” Michael Angelo M. Reyes, 1^st Year Representative said.

On the other hand, ACTS started their jail booth.

The said booth features surprises and enjoyment wherein an officer of the station will announce the hints like color of the shirt, etc. of the student whom the jail guard is going to detain at CT6 fourth floor for a few minutes.

“Actually, itong Jail Booth eh nag-open na siya today (December 02, 2010) pero yung formal talaga is tomorrow (December 03, 2010). I’m sure magiging masaya ‘to,” Vice-President Karriza Mae P. Florentino addressed.

Assembly Language Seminar disclose

As the second day of our university week arises, the Society for the Welfare of Information Technology Students (SWITS) organized a seminar on Assembly Programming for BSIT 3^rd year students held at IT 7 at eight in the morning.

The program started with an invocation led by Ms. Andrea Rei C. Bagay, Vice President of SWITS, followed by an introduction of the speaker in the name of Mr. Adrian Valmocina, which is conducted by Ms. Marian Minneli S. Cruz, one of the Faculty Advisers.

The seminar proper followed thereafter.

Afterwards, questions from the participants were entertained while distribution of the certificates was led by Ms. Ma. Lourdes O. Mangahas, President of SWITS.

ACTS conducts English Proficiency Seminar

Association of Computer Technology Students (ACTS) hosted the English Proficiency seminar for Computer Technology students at IT 4 last December 2, 2010.

Mrs. Marie Carolyne Padua, the owner of CVJ Training Center, was the speaker for the whole seminar.

Mrs. Padua talked about the appropriate resumes to be used when applying for a job. It has been said that reverse chronological resumes as well as functional resumes are those that can be used rather than online resumes and hybrid resumes. “Don’t use online resumes. Dapat talaga mag-effort sa paggawa nito,” she stressed out. Sample resumes were shown through a powerpoint presentation. Objective, primary awards and achievements are also said to be essential parts of a resume.

Power dressing was also discussed by Mrs. Padua. The proper outfit for women when applying for a job is corporate attire or a dress plus accessories that would match it. A five-accessory count is applied. For corporate attire, closed shoes must be worn, and for a dress, the shoes must match the fabric of the dress. A black bag is also advised to be used. And for men, a polo or long sleeves and leather shoes would do.

“Guard your manners,” as she introduced Visual Poise in her presentation. “Girls, start wearing make-up. Third year na naman kayo,” she said as she wants to develop the physical aspects of the students this early. The right manners for an interview are well discussed including the way an applicant should speak and sit.

Interview tips were also conferred in the seminar. FOCUS: Focal point. Organize your thoughts. Concentrate. Understand. Speak your mind. These are the things to be considered as well as confidence and English proficiency during an interview. A sample interview with the students facilitated by the speaker herself was conducted.

After the presentation, an open forum was held. Good feedbacks were also heard from the participants as well.

BSIT 3rd year participates in Web Development Seminar Using JQuery (Part I)

In partial fulfillment of the subject Free Elective 2 (Inspection Trips and Seminars), the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) 3^rd year students participated in Web Development Seminar using JQuery conducted by Mr. Jay Jay N. Mallari, a web developer and a graphic artist.

The said seminar started at 8:30 in the morning, December 2, at the College of Information and Communications Technology Reading Center. Mr. Irish Ivan M. Marcelino of BSIT 3EG2 led the invocation followed by the introduction of Web. The participants learned and enjoyed the object-oriented software called JQuery.

The seminar ended by giving certificate of the speaker and students.

CICT CONDUCTS SEMINAR ON BASIC COMPUTER MAINTENANCE

“Experience is the best teacher.”

This is a famous saying which was proven by Mr. Archie Nel B. De Jesus as the resource speaker in the annual seminar on Basic Computer Maintenance at IT7 CICT-CON Bldg during the second day of BulSU Foundation Anniversary.

Mr. De Jesus, a ten-year CICT Faculty President and also the Department Head of BIT Computer Technology shared his knowledge about the parts of the computer hardware in the said event which was attended by the BS Information Technology students.

He also discussed about the techniques and ways on how to troubleshoot a malfunctioning hardware of the computer.

“I want them to have more comprehensive understanding in the computer hardware. Basically, IT students are more on computer software so in this seminar, I hope they have learned a lot na hindi na nila iaasa pa sa technician yung problema sa pc nila,” he added.

After the seminar, he was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the CICT Faculty for being the resource speaker in the said event which was organized by the Society for the Welfare of Information Technology Students (SWITS) and the faculty of the college.

“Kung gusto nila muli nang seminar, mas maganda yun,” he enunciated.

The seminar is also a part of the college’s participation in the 106^th Foundation of Bulacan State University.

CICT Launches a Photo and Art Exhibit

In cooperation with Dean Fausto S. Hilario, the faculty and the students, the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) has successfully launched its first Photo and Art Exhibit at the Accreditation Room last December 1, 2010.

Jaime P. Pulumbarit, BSIT Department Head, officiated the ribbon cutting ceremony with the Dean and was witnessed by the faculty as well as the students. The said event showcased the best photos from the 3^rd year students who took Photography class last semester, and entries from CURSOR, The Official Student Publication of CICT. Different artworks by CURSOR were also displayed.

“The photos and paintings are all awesome. Different artistic designs and colors were portrayed in this exhibit. I can’t wait to attend this kind of activity next year,” enunciated by a CICT student.

The objective of this exhibit is to manifest the creativity of the college’s students. This event is open not only for CICT students but also for students from different colleges, faculty and staff here at the university.

CICT celebrates BulSU’s 106th Founding Anniversary

College of Information and Communications Technology held an opening program for the celebration of Bulacan State University’s 106^th Founding Anniversary at the CICT/CON stage with the theme “Revealing Excellence. Revealing the Digital World”.

The program began at around 2:00 in the afternoon with a doxology led by Mr. Orlando S. Palmero, the Master of Ceremony, followed by the singing of the National Anthem conducted by Mrs. Donna Q. Fernando. Furthermore, the Dean of the CICT, Dr. Fausto S. Hilario, delivered his opening remarks from which he emphasized the hard works for this event of the three organizations namely, Society for the Welfare of Information Technology Students (SWITS), Association of Computer Technology Students (ACTS) and CURSOR Publication, The Official Student Publication of CICT. He also stressed out that we should support all the activities and events of the CICT all throughout not only during the foundation week.

An intermission number was performed thereafter by two of the talented singers of the CICT Chorale in which they sang a very touching song “The Prayer”. Then, a heartwarming song number from Dr. Hilario and Mrs. Fernando followed which cheered up the CICTians and faculty members.

Afterwards, Mr. Palmero enumerated all the programs, seminars, and activities of the CICT all throughout the Foundation Week including the Debate, and Photo and Art Exhibit on day 1; Web Development Jquery Part 1, Basic Computer Maintenance, Assembly Programming, and English Proficiency Seminars on day 2; Web Development Seminar, Search for BulSU-Microsoft Student Partner, and the CICT Band Concert on the third day; Web Development Jquery part 2 Seminar on day 4; and Web Development Jquery Seminar part 3 on day 6. Other events include the Chorale, Jail Booth, Facebooth, Message Booth, and the T-Shirt Design Contest.

BulSU turned on the green lights for its 106th Founding Anniversary

As the cold days of December started, the Bulacan State University (BulSU) initiated the celebration of its 106^th Foundation Anniversary with the College of Arts and Letters (CAL) and College of Social Science and Philosophy (CSSP) as the host for a seven day celebration of the institution.

The event formally began through a parade at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center to the Main Gate of the University participated by different colleges in BulSU with their respective muses wearing their recycled costumes. Then, an opening program was held at the Activity Center upon the arrival of distinguished guests and University Officials. Moreover, entrance of colors was led by ROTC Officers and a tableau from the BulSU Theater Guild. Next is the singing of the National Anthem spearheaded by the Symphonic Band a doxology from BulSU Saringhimig and an invocation from different religious group.

Dr. Danilo Faustino, Vice President for Academic Affairs delivered an opening remark while Dr. Cecilia Geronimo, Vice President for External Affairs introduced the guest speaker, none other than Hon. Herminio “Sonny” Coloma, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Head. In his speech, he taught the participants a Tibettan Peace Offering. He also said that instead of focusing on problems, why not focus on the opportunity, because for him, education is an unending journey like what the theme of the Foundation Anniversary implies, “Unending Journey towards Excellence and Progress”. It was followed by an ethnic dance performed by BulSU Lahing Kayumangi Dance Troupe.

Furthermore, Councilor Christian Bautista of the City of Malolos represented and delivered the message of the beloved Mayor Christian Natividad. Greetings from Hon. Daniel Fernando Vice Governor of Bulacan was also heard at which he said that BSU is not just No. 1 in Bulacan but also in the whole Philippines for its achievements and success. “Hangad ko ang tagumpay ng ating paaralan”, he ended.

An intermission number was done by the Saringhimig to serenade the Bb. Pilipinas World 2010 Czarina Gatbonton who attended the opening program. Awarding for best muse was then spearheaded by the Laboratory High School of the College of Education (COEd-LHS) followed by the representative from CAL and College of Home Economics (CHE).

To end the program, the Vice President for Planning and Extension Services, Danilo Hilario had his closing remarks and a tableau from the Theater Guild to present the programs of the University President, Dr. Mariano C. de Jesus.

SWITS, ACTS and CURSOR unite for BulSU’s Foundation Week

Celebrating the 106^th Foundation day of Bulacan State University, the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) would have its part with its three major organization; Society for the Welfare of Information and Technology Students (SWITS), Association of Computer Technology Students (ACTS) and CURSOR Publication, the Official Student Publication of CICT.

As part of the celebration, SWITS will conduct Basic Computer Maintenance Seminar for the 1^st year students to be lead by Mr. Archie Nel de Jesus. Moreover, Assembly Language Seminar for the 2^nd year students will be done by Mr. Adrian Valmocina, while 3^rd year students will have their Web Development Seminar. Power Personality & Resume Writing/Interview Tips will be more so participated by BSIT 4^th year students plus Web Development using Jquery.

On the other hand, ACTS will conduct an English Proficiency Seminar.

Aside from conducting a series of seminar, SWITS will have their Message and Dedication Booth entitled “SWITS Maaga ang Pasko “ at which collected fees will be given to beneficiaries Lingap, Lex and Tanglaw which are part of the Extension Services of CICT. In addition, CICT Photo Exhibit called as “Lights and Strokes “featuring the best and most vivid pictures and artworks of BSIT 3^rd year Photography Class 2010 and CURSOR Production will be presented. Another is the FaceBooth of CURSOR wherein students can request a customized caricature and portrait. Also, Film Showing will be held at the Multimedia Room IT 6.

Sa pagkakataong ito, napakadaming gumugulo sa aking isipan kaalinsabay ang mga katanungang dapat kong sagutin. Nakakabinging katahimikan, puno ng kaba sa aking dibdib, lumalamang ang pagkaduwag at tuluyan nang sinakop ng pagkatakot ang buo kong pagkatao. Lalo na nung unti-unti kong nalaman at napagtanto ang lahat… Bakit? Paano na?...

Isa lamang ako sa napakaraming estudyante ng aming unibersidad. Ordinaryong kabataan na nakikisabay sa bawat pag-usad ng panahon. Nagnanais ng kalayaan mula sa nakasasakal na pagkakatali sa leeg na nakagapos na sa akin mula pa pagkabata.Na kung hindi ko pa susubukang kalagan ay mananatili na lamang akong walang laya. Masasabi kong may mababaw akong pag-iisip kaya't napakadaling maimpluwensyahan ng mga taong nakapaligid kahit na nakukuha ko nang sumuway sa aking ina. Ang sa akin lang naman ay mapagbigyan ang sarili kong kaligayahan. Naiisip ko kasi na may sarili akong pag-iisip at kayang-kaya ko nang gumawa nang aking desisyon na di na kokunsulta sa nanay ko. Mga bagay na lagi kong naiisip tuwing gabi bago ako matulog at syang naging sandata ko para tuluyan nang kumawala sa ilalim ng palda ng aking mapanuring ina. Aminado naman ako, hindi ako kasimbuti ng ibang anak diyan.

Magmula nang matuntong ako ng kolehiyo ay untiunti ko nang kinikilala ang aking sarili. Nakisalamuha sa mga taong may malamisteryosong mundo na syang umaakit sa akin para tuklasin ang tunay na ako. Kung ano madinig ko, ginagaya ko.. Kung ano meron sila, dapat ako din.. At kung ano ang ginagawa nila, sinubusukan ko din. Ganyan ako makisama sa agos ng buhay sa labas ng bahay at malayo sa poder ng nanay ko. Ilan yan sa mga bagay na bumago ng aking buhay. Dinaig ko pa yata ang bato sa sobrang katigasan ng aking ulo. Dahilan kaya't lagi kaming may pinagtatalunan ng aking magulang pag nakakauwi ako ng bahay dis oras ng gabi. Kabisadong kabisado ko na ang bawat sermon nya tuwing magkikita kami. Ang nakakarindi niyang boses ang lalo pang nakapagpadagdag ng aking pagkairita pag nagsalita na siya. Dire-dretso pa kung magsalita na hindi ko na halos makuha pang ipagtanggol ang sarili ko dahil sa sermon na kutakottakot. Nasanay na ako sa mga ganong senaryo, kung bakit ba kahit kinabukasan na ako umuwi ay nakukuha pa din niyang wag matulog at intayin pa ako para lang sermunan. Kulang na lang ay unahan ko na sya sa lahat ng sasabihin nya dahil lam ko na ang pasikot-sikot ng kanyang mga linya. At talagang halos pagdiinan na nya ang pagiging sutil at suwail kong anak sa kanya na matagal ko naman nang alam. Walang kasawa-sawang awayan.

Isang gabing nagkasagutan kami ng magaling kong ina dahil sa pagkakabenta ng bigay pa niyang kuwintas sa akin nung bata pa ako, para lang may maipanggimik ako tuwing gabi kasama ng mga barkada ko. Wala na akong magagawa kung bakit galit sya, ni hindi ko talaga siya masisi dahil napakahalaga non. Regalo pa sa kanya yun ng babaero kong tatay na nang-iwan sa amin nung mga panahong dinadala pa ako sa sinapupunan ng aking ina. Kaya't imbes na itapon na lang kung saan ang kuwintas ay ibinigay na lamang sa akin dahil nga ako ang naging bunga ng kanilang relasyon na parang isang kalokohan lamang. Sa totoo lang, yun talaga ang pangunahing rason ko kung bakit nagrerebelde ako sa magulang ko. Dahil sa pang-iiwan na ginawa ng aking ama na kahit sa litrato ay hindi ko man lang nakilala. Hanggang ngayon ay palaisipan pa sa akin kung bakit siya nang-iwan at di maiwasang naibubuhos ko ang lahat ng aking mga sama ng loob sa aking nanay. At buong buhay kong sinisisi dahil sa pagsisinungaling niya sa akin na patay na ang aking ama nung mga panahong hinahanap ko ang ang taong nagging parte ng aking pagkatao. Umiigting pa ang aking galit sapagkat napagiisip- isip ko noon na sobrang pinapaliit ang aking mundo sapagkat madalas halos ikadena lamang ako sa loob ng apat na sulok ng aming tahanan. Malamang natatakot lang syang iwanan ko din syang mag-isa tulad ng ginawa ng mahusay kong ama. Hindi niya lam, napasama pa yung ginawa niyang pagpapalaki sa akin dahil natutunan ko ang salitang “rebelde”. At sa mga maiimpluwensya ko pang mga kabarkada ko nalaman ang buong kahulugan ng salitang iyon na dati-rati ay labas pa sa aking bokabularyo.

Sa araw-araw na pag-alis ko ng pamamahay ay hindi makukumpleto ang araw ko pag hindi kami nag-aaway. At sa gabi-gabi kong pag-uwi ay hindi ko na siya nakitang plantsado ang kanyang mukha tuwing sasalubungin ako kasunod ng sermon. Sobrang nakaksanay talaga.

Sa mga sitwasyong ganoon, tinuturing ko nang karamay ang mga adik kong ka-tropa at laging bangag kong syota (na panglabing-walo ko na yata o labing-siyam na jowajowaan). Sa mga pagkakataong yun, karamay din namin ang mga bote na amoy tsiko na nagiging sanhi pa ng pagkabangenge naming lahat. At minsang muli kaming nagkatagpo-tagpo sa palibot ng lamesitang puno ng nakakahilong inumin, sa sobrang sama ng loob ko sa nanay ko, bawat kuwento ko -- tagay, bawat bulalas – tagay. Sa mga oras na yun naiimbsan ang mga hinanakit sa kabuuan ng aking dibdib. Hanggang sa unti-unti ko nang di alam ang mga pinaggagawa at sinasabi ko. Mga salitang lumalabas na lamang sa aking bibig ng kusa kahit na wala ng katuturan. Tumatawa sa mga bagay kahit wala naming torya na.

Nagising ang aking kamalayan, inaalala ang mga nakaraang nangyari. Tinatamad akong idilat ang aking mga mata, pilit pinakikiramdaman ang kapaligiran. Huli ko na naintindihan ang lahat. Dala ng matinding sama ng loob, sarili ko'y napabayaan. Mga kaibigang itinuring ko ako'y hinayaan. Mga telang suot ko lamang nung nakaraang gabi ngayo'y nasa sahig na lamang matatagpuan. Anu na nga ba ang nangyari sa akin?

CICT and CS Lights the Flame for Claiming Level 2

With the joint effort of the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) and College of Science (CS), Second Survey Visit began as fire ignites on the arrival of the accreditors from the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines (AACCUP), 4 o'clock in the afternoon, at the Bulacan State University (BulSU) Hostel together with the Faculty Members and students of both colleges.

Dr. Fausto S. Hilario, CICT Dean, Prof. Nora A. Tan, CS Dean, and Area Chairs welcomed the accreditors as they had a conversation and socialization with them while they are having their snacks with the faculty. The evaluators are Engr. Aser N. Dino from Camarines Norte State College (CNSC) as the Team Leader of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology(BSIT) program and Dr. Editha T. Vasay from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University(DMMMSU) for Bachelor in Industrial Technology Major in Computer Technology. Moreover, Dr. Carina V. Opiña from Isabela State University(ISU), Teresa Y. Acantilado from DMMMSU, Dr. Paul Joseph N. Pisilen and Prof. Fely A. Akilith both from Mountain Province State Polytechnic College(MPSRC). Whereas, the Area-in-Charged for the ten areas in the CICT Accreditation Task Force comprise of Dr. Victoria P. Valenzuela and Engr. Noemi P. Reyes(Area I), Mr. Arvin V. Pagsibigan and Engr. 4th year BIT-CompTech showcase their Project Design

After the classroom inspection on the 4th floor of the College of Information and Communications Technology, the ribbon cutting for the Project Design Exhibit 2010 followed thereafter at CT6. It was led by Dr. Editha T. Vasay, Engr. Aser N. Dino and Prof. Paul Joseph N. Pisilen, AACUP Accreditors, September 7, 2010.

Before the 4th year students of BIT-Comptech sends themselves to their On-the-Job Training, unveiling their thesis project to the AACUP Accreditors happened first, which became a fulfillment for them since the evaluators are the one who test and evaluate their works. One of the theses presented was the PC Based Notice Board Internship Office, an auto-open window and designed to post important announcements of the college. Another project presented was the GSM Multimedia Device which has been developed for the safety in electrical purposes. “Parang mas magaling na sila kesa sa ECE”, said by Dr. Vasay, one of the AACUP Accreditors.

Other thesis projects presented were; CICT Public Address and Information System, CICT Electronic Information Board, 10 in 1 Multimedia Device, CICT Alumni Social Networking Sites, 8 in 1 Computer Cable Tester, Photo Booth, CICT Stock Room, CICT Digital Printing Station, Multi Purpose Mobile Phone Station, Multimedia Device for Teaching Instruction, Portable Instructional Media Device with Bluetooth Operated Audio System , Hard Drive Data Cloning Device and CICT on the Job Training Portal. “Wala pa akong nakikitang hindi maganda. Wala ng bababa sa uno ang grade nila,” Dr. Vasay stressed out. The Project Design Exhibit was presented to show that the BIT-Comptech is versatile in terms of hardware and software technology.

AACCUP Accreditors initiate the assessment of the Ten Areas

After the formal opening of the survey visit, AACCUP Accreditors initiated the assessment of the ten areas of the CICT. The evaluation was done in the Accreditation Room where accreditors began to review all the supporting documents prepared by the college in each area with Dr. Editha T. Vasay, Engr. Aser N. Dino and Engr. Paul Joseph N. Pisilen together with the Area Chairs who have answered several questions from them.

In the afternoon, the accreditors commenced the cutting of ribbons of the Exhibit of Thesis Projects of Bachelorin Industrial Technology, at which they are amazed with the said projects as part of the growing and fast trend in technology. The assessment continued until afternoon of the Day 1 as they visit the offices of the CICT Administration as well as the Student Center wherein the Society for the Welfare of Information Technology Students (SWITS) Association of Computer Technology Students (ACTS) and CURSOR complied with their duties and responsibilities as student leaders.

CICT and CS disclose Survey Visit Opening Program

College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) and College of Science (CS) paved its way for the AACCUP's Second Survey Visit by having an opening program, a formal welcoming of the accreditors, last September 7, 2010, at 8:30 in the morning, held at BulSU Activity Center, for the Level 2 Accreditation.

The first part of the said program was a courtesy call to the University President who is unfortunately not present due to some appointments that he had, so the Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Antonio del Rosario and the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Danilo Faustino as well as the Vice President for Planning Research and Extension, Dr. Danilo Hilario together with the Dean of both colleges Dr. Fausto S. Hilario from CICT, and Prof. Nora A. Tan from CS, did the honor to welcome the evaluators and took pride with the accomplishments of the University from the previous years.

Then, the accreditors and University Officials proceeded to the Activity Center where students and Faculty Members waited to witness the formal opening of the Second Survey Visit. Doxology was heartily rendered by the BulSU Quartet followed by the singing of the National Anthem. BulSU Hymn was sung by Ms. Ianne Regene M. Giron accompanied by the BulSU Symphonic Band. Dr. Danilo D. Faustino, Vice President for Academic Affairs, more so, gave his opening remarks to welcome the promising accreditors for the two colleges. Next is a serenade from the BulSU Saring Himig with their rendition of Bituing Walang Ningning.

Dr. Alfredo G. Mendoza, Director of Internal Quality and Insurance, however, introduced the University Officials, Dean of different colleges in BulSU, Faculty and PTA Officers followed by the dancing prowess from Hyper Dynamics and Lahing Kayumanggi Dance Troupe as they performed their modern and traditional dances respectively to spice up the whole program. Moreover, Dr. Hilario and Prof. Tan proudly introduced the people behind the ten areas for Accreditation, the faculty, as well as the ever supportive students both from BSIT and BIT-CompTech, BS Math and BS Biology. Dr. Elsie M. Pacho, Overall Coordinator of AACCUP Survey Team, presented the Statement of Purpose and introduced her colleagues who will evaluate the ten areas to be visited. “We are here because of a common belief, to establish and maintain quality and excellence,” she said. The exemplar of quality and excellence, Danilo S. Hilario, Vice President for Planning, Research and Extension, said in his closing remarks spoke with great determination and purpose for the two colleges to pass the accreditation. “Bulacan is number one. BSU is numero uno,” he stressed out. BulSU March was sung by one of the BulSU Quartet which ended the program, accreditors then had their morning snack at the BulSU Hostel before they start activities of accreditation.

CICT on its Last Minutes of Preparation: Level 2 Accreditation

As we all aim for the higher grounds in the upcoming accreditation, administration, faculty, students, as well as the father of the College, the Dean, has made the necessary preparations to make it through the four days of quality assessment measures. These made the college to have a uniting family that will then pursue one common vision for another important step into the higher milieu of academic excellence.

The faculty, which is considered as the busiest bee in the College, has aspirations for the accreditation, “Sana 5 na ang makuha natin ngayon,” said Mrs. Ma. Famela M. Balite, CICT Instructor.

Pressured? “Slightly pressured, because we have limited time compared to the last Accreditation. But we believe we imparted the best in ourselves to make everything fine,”Mrs. Virginia N. Franco added, Area IX-Chairman (BIT-CompTech Program). Everyone can sense the accreditation as the faculty gets very busy with the various areas assigned to them as well as the student organizations that made the college look brighter.

As we triumphantly emerged on the First Formal Survey Visit last August 18-20, 2009, CICT sees a brighter light now in passing the Second Survey Visit and be a Level 2 accredited college.

WIND BENEATH OUR WINGS

Wonder how birds can fly without the wind? Would they be able to fly by merely using their wings?

Birds will not be able to fly by merely using their wings. If there is no wind beneath their wings, they won’t be able to fly high and to glide. Birds don’t just flap their wings; they also consider the moods of the wind. And not all the time birds flap their wings to fly, because sometimes they use their wings to glide for a smoother fly or landing depending on their needs.

It is similar to a man reaching his goals. He will not be able to reach his goal only by himself. Birds fly to search for better foods and shelter. Same as with man, he explores for continuous growth and to find for opportunities that can make him a better person. But sometimes, we focus too much on our goal without knowing that there are ladders that we must step on, one by one to reach our goals. Like the birds, the man also needs his winds to achieve his aim. These winds are:

1. Happy Thoughts- When I was a child, one of my favorite stories is about PETER PAN. In this story, Peter Pan will only be able to fly if he could think of happy thoughts. Same with us, if we will always think optimistically and bear in our minds the happy thoughts, for sure we will also be able to soar high.

2. Family- They are the one who will stand by you no matter what situation you are in. They don’t care if some people say bad things about you, because they will always accept you for being YOU.

3. Friends-“A friend is one who knows us, but loves us anyway.” -- Fr. Jerome Cummings. Yes, they are the one who also stays with us despite our mood swings. But sometimes they can bring us two kinds of winds. The first one is the one who comes with the dark clouds. These dark clouds may bring us storms and typhoons that could hinder us from achieving our goals. The other one is the one who comes with white clouds that may bring us light and sunshine that could enlighten our path to success. And it is up to us whom we want to be with.

4. Special Someone- He is the one that can serves as our inspiration. He’s the one whom you can share your plans and dreams. He is the one whom you can talk to, when you encounter some difficulties that you can’t share with your friends or even family.

5. God- He is the one that will guide us to the right path. Nothing bad will happen to us as he’s with us. No matter how we strive for our goals, if it is not God’s will, then you can’t have it. So before starting on anything, let’s ask first his guidance and blessing.

These are some of the winds beneath your wings that can help you in being one of the greatest persons.

New Batch of CURSOR Family: Learn Skills Together

CURSOR, the Official Student Publication of the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT), conducted its first meeting together with the new set of members last June 26, 2010. The meeting is comprised of the different things to know about in Cursor.

Nelsielene S. dela Paz, CURSOR’s Editor-in-Chief, discussed important details including the VMGO and Constitution of Cursor. Then, Ms. Alicia N. Magtira, one of CURSOR’s Creative Consultant, discussed about the CURSOR Process. On the other hand, Mr. Orlando S. Palmero, Jr., CURSOR’s adviser, participated in discussing about leadership. He asked the new members what is leadership for themk and how will they contribute to leadership. “Mawala na ang lahat, ‘wag lang siya,” said Sir Land pertaining to leadership. “You have to lead yourself…. Leadership is the influence…. There will be more mistakes if you don’t know how to lead yourself.” “Hold on to your principles,” he strongly said. He also discussed the by-laws of CURSOR. He also stressed out on this: “Ang kalaban ng great ay good. Greatness could not just mean good enough.” A grade of flat one (1.0) is still different from a 1.25.

After the discussion of Sir Land, Patrick Joseph Victor, CURSOR’s Art Editor way back 2007, shared his knowledge in Adobe Photoshop. On a separate room, Ms. Magtira discussed the basics of News, Feature, and Editorial Writing including the satirical approach of an article. After the presentation, Ma’am Alicia quoted this, “Dapat marunong kang tumanggap ng criticisms.”

BulSU’s’s Afro on Pinoy Henyo!

Mr. Afro, Abel Asmerom Tekle, played on Pinoy Henyo Internation Edition, a game segment in Eat Bulaga, last Saturday, June 26, 2010.

Together with an English man, Joe Goodal, they played next on the two Koreans.

Vic Sotto, the segment host, asked what they do here in the Philippines , and Abel proudly said ,”Im studying here at BSU.” Abel was the one who played for “Oo,” “Hindi,” “Pwede,” while Joe on the other hand, played for answering the given word which is “Tuhod.”

At first, Joe cannot give an exact term for his given answers, until he mentioned “Tao?”, and Abel answered “Pwede”. With this, Joe asked if it is a part of a body, “Sa taas? Sa baba?”, and getting the answer “Tuhod’ for one minute and four seconds.

They have the shortest time played, so they played for the Jackpot Round. Unfortunately, they did not hit the jackpot but still they were not losers, for they brought home Php 20,000.

CICT commences Freshmen Orientation

College of Information and Communication Technology held an orientation for freshmen students of BSIT and BIT-CompTech last June 24, 2010 at the Activity Center.

The orientation started at around 9:15 in the morning with an invocation led by Kaye Ann Chungtuyko, Vice-Governor of the Local Student Council (LSC) of CICT followed by an interpretative dance from BulSU Theater Guild. More so, singing of the National Anthem and BulSU Hymn was conducted by Mr. Herminio Suarez. Mr. Aljhon Mallari, Governor of the LSC and Mr. Mark Anthony Lodrigito, Senator of the Supreme Student Council (SSC) became the Masters of Ceremony at which they first call the sections of respective courses offered by the college. Then, Dr. Mariano de Jesus, University President delivered his opening remarks. Dr. Fausto S. Hilario, Dean of the CICT, however, introduced the CICT Faculty as well as stressing points to remember while the students are on their stay in CICT. “Ignorance of the law, excuse no one”, he uttered as the whole family of the college wants to be the “Most Disciplined College in the university.”

Next is the performance coming from the the BulSU Theater Guild in their own rendition of Phantom Opera. Dana Eloisa Tamayo, Vice President, moreover, introduced the BulSU Board of Regents, University Officials, Administration, Local Administration, Student Council and the different organizations in the University especially in CICT. Another performance was also showed by KALIPI Performing Arts Division in their theatrical presentation about FAQ’s about BulSU.

An open forum was also organized for students to raise questions to be answered by the SSC, Dr. Fausto Hilario and Dr. Antonio Del Rosario.

Dr. Remigio Musca, led the singing of the University March which ended the program.

Pano ko ba sasabihing “Tay, Happy Father’s Day”

”Minsan, naitanong ko sa sarili ko, “masama ba akong anak?”, o kaya naman, “black sheep ba ko?”.

Sabi ng teacher ko dati, kailangan daw gawing kaaya-aya ang atmosphere ng isang pamilya para raw pagkagaling sa skul ng isang bata ay maging sabik sya sa pag-uwi sa kanila. Naitanong ko tuloy sa sarili ko, “eh di hindi ganun kaganda ang atmosphere sa pamilya namin dahil hindi naman ako ganun kasabik umuwi? Bakit? Anong mayron? Samantalang, tanging sa bahay ko lang mararanasan ang tunay na pahinga, ang lugar kung san ako makakapag-isip, yung lugar kung saan hindi ko kailangang magkunwari.

Naaalala ko nung grade 6 ako eh nakita ko ang sarili kong umiyak dahil pinatayo ako ng teacher ko kasi pinapaamin nya ko kung bakit sinabi ko raw sa klasmeyt ko na hindi ako nagmamano kay tatay sa tuwing umuuwi ako. Wala talaga akong maisagot kung hindi luha kasabay ang masalimuot na pag-alala sa mga ginawa ng tatay ko. Talagang halos dei ako makakita dahil sa sunud-sunod na pag-agos ng mga luha sa aking mata. Para kasing naririnig ko si tatay na sumisigaw, yung malakas na sigaw na may kasamang mura. Ganun lagi ‘pag lasing siya, ganun lagi ‘pag may nakakasamaan sya ng loob sa labas, sa amin nya binubunton. Minsan naman, kung hindi sya makahingi ng pera kay ina, magdadabog yun, magwawala, magwawala na para bang nilalamon ka ng buhay. Wala syang trabaho, wala siyang maipagmamalaki. Oo, masasabing palamunin kami ng mga nuno ko. Pero WALA man lang siyang ginagawa.

Sabin g nanay ko, habang nadadagdagan ang edad ng isang tao, tumatanda rin ang isip nya. Lumalawak ang pang-unawa, pero bakit ang tatay ko hindi? Parang bumabalik sya sa pagkabinata kung saan mahilig pa rin sya sa barkada, mahilig sa inom? Mahilig sa kung anu-anong bagay na hindi naman nakakatulong sa pamilya niya? Hign school ako, at hinayaan lang nya na magtrabaho si nanay dahil si nanay naman daw ang may gusto na makapag-aral ako? Ganun ba dapat ang maging damdamin at isipan ng isang ama? Isang ama na inakala kong tunay na haligi ng isang pamilya? Maswerte na lang siguro kami dahil nung kasalukuyang maluklok ang kasalukuyang punung bayan sa Calumpit ay nabiyayaan sya ng trabaho. Trabaho na kapag inasahan namin, wala ring mangyayari dahil hindi sapat ang kita. Kadalasan pa nga, malaking porsyento nito ay napupunta sa inom at hindi sa pamilya, sa gimik imbis na sa pag-aaral ng mga anak niya. Minsan pa nga ‘pag nawalan siya ng pera dahil sa kalasingan, sa amin pa ibinibintang. Ginugusto pa nyang marinig ng mga kapitbahay ang WALANG KWENTA nyang palahaw, mga WALANG KWENTA nyang bintang.

Life begins at 40. Siguro nga. Panu kasi graduating na ako ng college pero ni katiting na pagbabago sa tatay ko, WALA pa rin akong makita. Mas lumala pa nga ata. Ayoko nang ikwento yung isang pangyayari sa aming pamilya nung 1st year college ako kung saan nauwi pa sa paglayas niya sa amin ng isang lingo. Nagkaroon pa nga siya ng baril, at kung nagkataon na naiputok niya sa isa sa amin ang isang bala noo, hindi ko siguro siya mapapatawad. Ang nanay ko na halos pinasok na ang lahat ng uri ng trabaho, at ginawa na lahat para mapabuti kami, ang taong matatag sa habang panahon at inunawa siya kahit totoong masama siya eh patuloy pa rin siyang iniintindi sa lahat ng bagay. Manang-mana raw kami sa nanay, sagot ko naman, “at least hindi sa kanya”. Masakit pa nga ‘pag iniisip niyang palpak ang ginagawa namin (kahit hindi naman, pano sya lang ang lagging tama at gusto niya lang may mabungangaan, papansin kung baga), sabi niya, sana raw nung bata pa kami pinindot niya na kami sa ilong para namatay na lang kami. Mas masakit pa sa “sana pinahid ko na lang kayo sa kumot”.

Sa isang dekada ko sa paaralan, halos taun-taon yata may sabit ako (di ako nagyayabang) pero isang beses nya lang ako nasabitan kaya hindi ko alam kung proud ba siya o sadyang walang pakialam. Sa kanya nga raw ako nagmana (pero hindi ako naniniwala), at kamukha ko raw siya (ayaw kong tanggapin kahit obvious naman). Sweet sya kung minsan, pero sa paningin ko, lahat yun kaplastikan. Lalo na kung bagong taon, HALIK HUDAS lagi ang natatanggap ko mula sa kanya dahil kahit bagong taon, hindi naman siya bagong buhay. DIMONYO sya sa paningin ko (SORRY sa word). Yung tipong may sungay sya, may buntot, at higanteng tinidor. Maswerte nga sya sa anak niya kung tutuusin. Alam ko hinihigpitan nya kami dahil ayaw niyang maging tulad niya kami, at alam kong hindi naman talaga mangyayari na tutulad kami sa kanya. Ok pa rin naman dahil hindi niya kami ng pisikal, nasasaktan kami emosyonal.

Kahit kalian, hindi ako nainggit sa kahit anong material na bagay na mayroon ang mga tao sa paligid ko. Kahit kalian, hindi naging hadlang sa akin ang pangmamaliit at pang-aalipusta ng ibang tao dahil sa antas ng aming pamumuhaykasi mahirap lang naman talaga kami. Pero sa tuwing makakakita ako ng mag-ama, parang dinudurog ang puso ko. Masakit, nag-iiwan ng marka na hindi na yata maaalis.. Sadyang tagos buto ang pagka-inggit ko.

Hindi naman ako galit, kaya lang, sa tuwing maiisip ko, paulit-ulit akong nasasaktan, at ang paulit-ulit na pangyayaring iyon ang nagpamanhid sa puso ko para bigyang pansin siya. Nakakapagod. Lahat naman kasi may hangganan. Sabi nga ni Bob Ong, hindi naman habang buhay iiyak ang mundo dahil sa isang tao. Kung kailan siya magbabago, yun ang hindi ko talaga masasabi. Siguro matatagalan pa bago siya magsisi, pero darating ang araw na iiwanan siya ng mga taong pinahalagahan niya kaysa sa pamilya. At yung mga taong iniwan niya para sa mga yun ay mawawalan na ng gana sa kanya, sapat para maranasan niya ang mag-isa. Alam ko, pwedeng hindi ako maintindihan ng mga babasa nito, sasabihin nyo sa ‘kin, tatay ko pa rin yon at walang mababago. Pero hindi nyo naman alam ang kung ano yung nararamdaman ko at mga pinagdaanan ko sa mahabang panahon. Mahal ko siya, kaso, mahal niya kaya ako???

Ako nga ba ang black sheep? Ngayon, paano ba talaga magsabi na “Tay, Happy Father’s Day!”. Kailan ko masasabing “Tay, MAHAL KITA kahit ganyan ka?”

CICT Extension Services conducts Computer Literacy Training for Lingap Members

The first day of the training was facilitated by Ms. Alicia Magtira and Ms. Lilibeth Antonio, who taught the basics Microsoft Paint and the succeeding day was facilitated by Mr. Adrian Valmocina and Mr. Angelo Carlos (Day2), Ms. Naomi Custodio and Mr. Omar Tito Faustino (Day3), and Ms. Dorothy Duran and Ms. Michelle Tansinsin (Day4). The said instructors introduced to students Microsoft office applications except MS Excel. These students have their graduation ceremony on June 4, 2010 at IT 8, 3rd floor of the Academic Building.

At the graduation ceremony, Ms. Jane Kristine Suarez spearheaded the invocation followed by notable notes from the CICT Dean, Dr. Fausto S. Hilario. Dr. Elvira Galang, President of Lingap Incorporated, also delivered his message together with the Director of the Extension Services of BulSU, Dr. Restetita Francisco. Moreover, Akane Okamoto, Representative from Kansai University also gave her message then awarding of certificates to the participants happened next. CICT Extension Services conducts Computer Literacy Training for Lingap Members

While the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) is preparing for the opening of classes, Extension and Community Involvement Services in the college headed by Mrs. Rosemarie Bautista, conducted an intercultural exchange program among third grade students who are LINGAP Members last June 1-4, 2010 at the 3rd floor of the Academic Building.

The first day of the training was facilitated by Ms. Alicia Magtira and Ms. Lilibeth Antonio, who taught the basics Microsoft Paint and the succeeding day was facilitated by Mr. Adrian Valmocina and Mr. Angelo Carlos (Day2), Ms. Naomi Custodio and Mr. Omar Tito Faustino (Day3), and Ms. Dorothy Duran and Ms. Michelle Tansinsin (Day4). The said instructors introduced to students Microsoft office applications except MS Excel. These students have their graduation ceremony on June 4, 2010 at IT 8, 3rd floor of the Academic Building.
At the graduation ceremony, Ms. Jane Kristine Suarez spearheaded the invocation followed by notable notes from the CICT Dean, Dr. Fausto S. Hilario. Dr. Elvira Galang, President of Lingap Incorporated, also delivered his message together with the Director of the Extension Services of BulSU, Dr. Restetita Francisco. Moreover, Akane Okamoto, Representative from Kansai University also gave her message then awarding of certificates to the participants happened next. After that, a thanksgiving prayer was conducted by the Vice President for Planning, Research and Extension, Dr. Danilo Hilario.

CURSOR Foundation holds 1st Alumni General Assembly

With the joint effort of Ms. Alicia Magtira, Creative Consultant of CURSOR and the newly selected Editorial Board, the 1st CURSOR Alumni General Assembly was conducted last May 29, 2010, at IT 4, 3rd floor of the Academic Building.

The program started at exactly 4 o’clock in the afternoon with a prayer led by Ms. Jane Kristine Suarez, CURSOR Adviser, followed by an opening remark from Dr. Fausto S. Hilario, Dean of the CICT. In his speech, he congratulated the publication for successfully doing its best towards the continuous implementation of Campus Journalism not only in the college but in the whole university as well. Next, is also an opening remark from the Editor-in-Chief of CURSOR, Ms. Nelsielene S. dela Paz, wherein she stated that the legacy of the alumni was still treasured in the team like molding talented students in the field of journalism and still looking for programs to benefit other students as they share the things that they have learned from the publication.

An election was followed thereafter at which Ms. Charlene Joy Tuazon, former News and Current Events Editor became the President and Mr. Jonathan Chua became the Vice President. For Secretary, Ms. Alicia Magtira grabbed the position while Ms. Ivy Caparas was elected as the Treasurer. Ms. Aiza Garcia however became the Auditor with Mr. Patrick Joseph Victor and Mr. Jeofry dela Cruz as the Public Relation Officers. Moreover, Ms. Mary Grace Reyes and Ms. Kristine Jane Suarez became the Business Managers.

After the election was the launching of the CURSOR Financial Assistance Program (CFAP) spearheded by Ms. Magtira. In the said program, three active members of the Publication will be given a chance to be a scholar provided that they have complied with the requirements set by the legal documents agreed by the Alumni Association. The amount of P2, 500.00 will be given every semester which will come from the alumni. Each benefactor will be considered as Platinum Benefactor (who give P3, 000.00 and above), Gold Benefactor (P2, 000.00) and Grand Benefactor (P1, 000.00). The Alumni Association reviewed the documents of CFAP and did certain recommendations, suggestions and verifications. Submission of requirements will be on the first week of June.

The assembly was ended through a short bonding and picture taking between CURSOR Alumni and the 2010-2011 Editorial Board.
